DongHwa Entec Co., Ltd./DongHwa Pnuetec Co., Ltd. and Samsung Heavy Industries signed an MOU on joint development of key technology and equipment supporting eco-friendly fuel as a preemptive response to the environmental restrictions that are rapidly changing the shipbuilding and marine engineering markets.

This agreement covers major equipment including LPG fuel supply device, PCHE/PFHE-applied Cold Box for LNG re-liquefaction, Heat Exchanger for refrigerated generation, HP Compressor for ME-GI and LP BOG Compressor Package.

The ceremony was attended by senior personnel from the three companies, including DongHwa Entec Senior Executive Director Yang Yeong-myeong,

DongHwa Pneutec Executive Director Kim Yong-jik and Samsung Heavy Industries Executive Director Lee Dong-yeon.

The competitiveness of eco-friendly fuel ships is expected to rise as a result of this agreement, by replacing expensive imported overseas equipment through joint R&D on equipment for eco-friendly fuel ships.

Further, DongHwa Entec and Samsung Heavy Industries announced that they had successfully completed verification testing on the LPG fuel supply system at Samsung Heavy Industries’ LNG verification facility for the first time, according to the agreement.

LPG, an eco-friendly fuel , compared to existing ship fuel oil (bunker C oil), causes less CO2 and NOx emissions with almost no SOx emissions and fine dust(PM), and is therefore being recognized for its effective reduction of gas emissions from ships.

With the establishment of a legal and institutional foundation, including preparation of inspection regulations for ships using LPG as fuel, a new eco-friendly ship market is expected to be created.

Hence, DongHwa Entec Co., Ltd. developed a fuel supply system to stably supply fuel to LPG LGIP(Liquid Gas Injection Propane of MAN Energy Solution) and then, successfully completed performance verification for the entire fuel supply system through advanced fuel supply system technology and LPG verification testing via joint research with Samsung Heavy Industries.

By successfully completing advanced preparation for its application to Samsung Heavy Industries’ LPG fuel-powered ship and LPG carrier through this verification testing, the fuel supply system is anticipated to become a growth engine to lead the LPG-powered ship market into a rapid growth phase.
